My Trip Review
Hello – we just returned from 2 weeks at the Lindo. This was our first time to an Iberostar resort and I can honestly say we are now HOOKED! Besides a trip to Phuket Thailand (before our daughter was born) – this was the best vacation of our lives.
Thanks to many on this site – we were able to do and get exactly what we wanted. We entered the beautiful reception and were greeted. DiveLaw on this site had mentioned that room 5372 was awesome and he was right! I asked the man if I could have the best room in the house – best view – then I put forty dollars on the counter and asked if we could have 5372 – and he checked if it was available and sure enough – it was one of 3 rooms available! We went to the room and it had a huge balcony that overlooked the pools and had a ocean view as well! We were able to see all the action at the pool bar and all the games that took place around the pool. We were barely in the room – but it was so nice to have that view early morning and at night.
When we checked in we walked out of reception and noticed lots of construction due to the fire. The pool fountains had been drained and there was lots of noisy construction but we didn’t care as it was so far from our room.
The Cajun restaurant was closed down. However, when dinner approached we went to investigate the property and were welcomed into what was the Pagoda Chinese restaurant which had been converted to the Cajun. We really enjoyed the Cajun. Later the next week – the Pagoda was back as the construction had finished and the original Cajun was back in business. Boy those guys work fast!
We didn’t care for the Mexican restaurant – very bland. We loved the steak house El Rancho at the Maya. We loved the Italian – La Laguna – we would order several different entrees at each place so we could try everything – hey it was free!
We ate at the Chinese Pagoda – we didn’t care for it – the food was almost exactly the same as the Japanese.
To be honest – we were quite happy with the buffet at night as there was a large variety of items to choose from. Our daughter enjoyed this as well. For the lunch buffet we preferred to eat at the buffet on the Maya side of the pool. It was just prettier and very airy. Also – we discovered that there is an air-conditioned, lovely breakfast and lunch buffet in the Laguna restaurant each day! It was the best if you don’t mind not overlooking the pool action.
Each night we went to the shows at 8 for mini-disco and our daughter loved it! We stayed for the entertainment each night which was FABULOUS! We cannot stop doing the Hey Baby Dance “Heeeyy hey Baby - OOOH AHHH – I wanna Knoooooww if you’ll be my girl!!!””
Love it!!
The pools were amazing! We loved hanging out at the wave pool the first week – this is where most of the little children and families hang out – our 3 year old met friends from all over the world! The drink service was Awesome! Wendy was great!
The next week we started to hang out at the main pool where there is a lot more action. I loved doing the water aerobics with Carol – she is so awesome! We brought our floats from home and never left our room without them. We gave them to other families when we left. Bring a round donut tube! We went to the beach as well and it was amazing! I used my camera bag strap and tied it around my tube and then swam out to the buoy line and attached my tube to it and just floated and relaxed all day long – JUST HEAVEN!!!!
The were only rocks in one area of the ocean – just go out and swim where the crowd is as there wasn’t one rock – just smooth level sand. Snorkeling was fantastic right on our very own beach.
We loved the beach party each Wednesday – they cook a massive pot of paella on the beach, have a live band and a bikini contest! So fun!
My daughter and I painted ceramics on the beach one day and it was so relaxing! When we finished – we gave our pieces to the man and two hours later returned to pick them up and they were gorgeous! The men put on finishing touches and glaze them! I made a jewelry box and my daughter a dolphin.
I got amazing deals on jewelry at the commercial center. They had some beautiful unique pieces. I also bought some gorgeous pieces at the jewelry store in the Lindo near the gift shop.
I know I am probably all over the place with this review but I am so excited to write it – I am in a frenzy of lovely memories!
Each night when my husband and daughter were so exhausted and were in bed – (they are not night owls like myself) I would go across the street to the commercial center to the Galaxy disco. This place was the best for music and people watching! Everyone danced their heads off. I would just sit in my little corner on the leather couch and take in all the action! When it was time to leave – I was never afraid as there were so many people around and golf carts out front ready to drive people back to their resorts! Talk about service.
The Star Friends became our Best friends – cheers to Guga, Lilly, Carol, Daniel, Einstein, Armando etc. And cheers to our favorite bartenders – Irving at the theatre, and Hilario at the wave pool bar.
We also want to thank Jesus the General Manager who treated us like gold. He is a fantastic man with a huge job – you will see him doing rounds on the property each day making sure everything is perfect. Drop him a hello.
The service was amazing. Each day we left 5 dollars on the bed and came back to beautiful towel animals and flowers petals all over the beds. My daughter was amazed! On my birthday – we came back to the room and found 10 towel animals, and chocolates and flower petals around the perimeter of each bed – not to mention a chilled bottle of champagne and a card! What a day! We had dinner at the Japanese on this night – it was fun – my husband arranged for a surprise cake so our whole table had cake after the entire staff and restaurant sang Happy Birthday! (blush!!!!)
Oh – one very important point for you – there was not one ATM on the property – so my husband had to take a $35.00 cab ride to Puerto Morelos for ATM access – we only needed the money because we tipped everyone. – These people work harder than any I have ever come across – it was our SINCERE pleasure to tip them.
We met so many wonderful people. We exchanged emails and addresses with couples from the US, Europe, South America and Canada and will visit/keep in touch with them. Some of us are going to try and coordinate our visits for next year!
Well – I could go on and on – rather than bore you – I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
I will tell you that we will DEFINITELY BE BACK next year for two weeks again – you really need two weeks if you can do it – as it took us at least 2 full days to get acquainted with the property and about 5 days to establish our daily routines. We were the Lindo experts by week 2 – and very tan as well!
Well my Iberostar friends – feel free to ask questions and I hope your trip experience will be as wonderful as ours!
Regards,
SunnyDee
